Quattro's multicar at the Cart Marking 2016

July 15, 2016

This year Quattro Plant were selected to participate in the Worshipful Company of Carmen’s prestigious Cart Marking event held at Guildhall, London on 13th July 2016.

The cart marking event, traditionally, originates from the beginning of the city itself, from the 13th Century. The Worshipful Company of Carmen was started as there was a need for Cart marking to balance service to the city, satisfying the crown and regulating trade. It was agreed by the involved parties that  all  licensed  vehicles  should  be  marked  with  the  City’s  arms  on  the shafts and numbered on a brass plate to show that they were authorised within the city of London, hence the Cart marking ceremony was born.

The vehicles are brought into Guildhall one by one to be marked by the Hallkeeper, who is empowered to license and mark cars and carts to stand and ply for hire in the City’s streets, so long as the owner is a freeman of the City and a member of the Fellowship of Carmen. Every vehicle has to be brought to Guildhall once a year to be marked. Each year is distinguished by a letter reference, each car by a number.

Quattro Plant Ltd decided to use their Urban highways multicar in the parade through Guildhall, London. The Fumo multicar has a Trilety suction body and has been fitted with a Rail Conversion so that it can be used on and off the track. The multicar was pulling a tram groove trailer that is currently regularly being used on the Croydon Trams and Manchester Metro.
